SOUND DESIGN

I use sound to enhance storytelling, create atmosphere, and support emotional connection. My sound designs combine research, intentional sound selection, and technical precision to build an immersive world for performers and audiences.

I use light to support the story, shape, and atmosphere, guiding the audience’s focus. My designs are grounded in research and a clear understanding of the production’s world and emotional journey

Every design begins with research. From understanding the script to collaborating with your creative team, the stage is about asking questions and finding inspiration to build a clear visual direction and design.

CONCEPT SKETCH

The Gas Station at the Edge of the Universe follows Sawyer, a recent university graduate, as they return to their hometown in rural northern Canada. After reuniting with their childhood best friend Casey, it becomes clear that something is amiss as masked creatures start seeking them out, threatening both their relationship and their lives. As their once familiar hometown becomes unrecognizable, the two must learn to forgive and let go before they lose themselves to their crumbling realities.

THE GAS STATION AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE

SOUND CONCEPT

The sound concept for The Gas Station at the Edge of the Universe began with the masked characters. Each character would have a distinct musical theme. For SUN, who represents anger and torture, I tied his motif to the real sounds the sun produces.

Researching solar activity, I found solar flares carried a menacing, angry quality with deep bass undertones. I used recordings from the Nat Taylor telescope and altered them to create an eerie theme.

DESIGN       |       DEVELOP      |      IMPLEMENT

During rehearsals and technical rehearsals, I build and program the sound design in QLab, collaborate with the creative team, make adjustments, and ensure the sound integrates smoothly with the rest of the production.

This is where ideas become reality. I translate the concept into a workable design, create and refine paperwork, collaborate during research, and program the show to bring the world of the production to life.

The final stage is seeing the design in front of an audience. I make final adjustments, document the production, and reflect on what I worked on, what I learned, and how I can continue to grow as a designer
